Giving Tuesday
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing people and organizations' power to transform their communities and the world.
Introduced in 2012, GivingTuesday is a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
We have all become accustomed to the outrageous Black Friday scenes of people getting trampled to secure the latest and hottest toy out just in time to start the holiday buying season. It seems to draw out the worst in people, and there is no virtue in a gift that comes at the expense of someone else's well being, nor is a disposable item worth the hype.
At some point, most of us shop for the holidays, and having a day mark the start of the holiday buying season is not a bad idea; humans do like to organize.
As the organizers behind the idea frame it: "In an era of global crisis and disconnection, we need new rituals to connect us. As the world's largest giving movement, we believe we can go further, faster.
GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe. We believe that generosity leads to greater civic participation and other pro-social behaviors.
Our mission is to build a more just and generous world."
So what are we doing? Between November 20 and November 30, 2021, we are donating 5% of all sales to charity.
Who are we helping? We identified a charity we believed does great work and can always use help - Canada's breakfast club.
We hope to make an impact. We hope that others learn about this amazing idea.
